WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE ROLE? 
  • The role will ensure the day to day maintenance of machinery and equipment, scheduling servicing with contractors
  • Supervise other staff to ensure all work is completed efficiently
  • Responsible for maintaining EH&S (Environmental, Health & Safety) standards for all maintenance activities including those of contractors
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • To prepare and maintain outside research areas, including soil cultivation and preparation, planting, sowing, weeding, irrigation, maintaining lawn areas;  applying knowledge of the requirements for the cultivation of a range of horticultural crops
  • Maintain the research station in excellent condition in terms of weed control, site cleanliness and ability to start trials on time. Ensure site ready for major events such as field day
  • Adapt to specific techniques required for successfully implementing the research program.  Be able to follow standard methods
  • Planning & Organization: Organize the preparation of sites in collaboration with technical team to ensure the experimental programme can be completed on time and in compliance with SOPs
  • Record details of site preparation and maintenance; including inventory lists of maintenance assets, maintenance records etc; vital to ensure the retention of the sites accreditation as an Officially Recognized Efficacy Testing Organization 
  • Support new employee on-boarding ensuring they can safely operate tools / machinery on site
  • Supervise staff to ensure the daily management of the maintenance workload
  • Provide motivation, delegate where appropriate and coach (provide clear direction for self and others)
  • Participate to the daily life of the research station: contribute to the daily meeting regarding planning and organization & planning maintenance tasks in the weekly agenda
  • Manage the work on site with external contractors: plan, organize and induct external contractors that work on site. Ensure new contractors are approved in line with Company policy and have the appropriate training records
 WHAT QUALITIES/SKILLS DO I NEED? 
 
  • Good basic education including GCSE English, Maths and Science
  • Computer literate
  • Practical certification in Horticulture or Groundsmanship eg LANTRA, IOG etc
  • National Proficiency Testing Certificate, PA1 and  PA6
  • Driving license
  • Tractor training
  • Horticultural machinery operation and maintenance 
  • Experience of delivering a high quality product from a land based industry (Greenkeeping, gardening  or farming)
  • A working knowledge of grounds maintenance and horticultural crops
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and report as needed
