Job Title: Livestock Manager

About Us:
Our client is a well respected Farming family with an expansive livestock unit among other Agricultural enterprises. Currently, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Livestock Manager to join the team and oversee the management and care of the cattle, sheep, and goats.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operations of the livestock department, including feeding, breeding, health monitoring, and general care of cattle, sheep, and/or goats.
- Develop and implement herd management strategies to optimize herd health, performance, and productivity.
- Oversee grazing management, pasture rotation, and forage utilization to maximize feed efficiency and maintain pasture health.
- Plan and coordinate breeding programs, including selection of breeding stock, mating decisions, and pregnancy monitoring.
- Supervise and train staff members involved in livestock care and management activities.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity protocols.
- Monitor and maintain accurate records of livestock inventory, health records, breeding history, and production data.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and other experts to address health issues, implement preventive health measures, and optimize nutritional programs.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for employees and animals.
- Interact with and educate the public as part of ‘open farm’ and ‘social media’ activities’
- Participate in budgeting and cost control efforts related to the livestock department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Livestock Manager or similar role, with a focus on cattle, sheep, and/or goats.
- Solid understanding of animal husbandry principles, including nutrition, reproduction, health management, and genetics.
- Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity protocols.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and data management software.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
