Overview:
Our client, a leading high-tech tomato producer in Romania, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Operations to oversee and drive operational excellence across their advanced greenhouse facilities. This role is pivotal in aligning production performance with strategic goals, ensuring the effective use of technology, and maintaining the highest standards in crop quality and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight & Production Management

Lead all production-related departments to ensure seamless day-to-day operations in accordance with company strategy and policy.

Oversee the integration and continuous improvement of advanced horticultural technologies to enhance yield, quality, and resource efficiency.

Supervise fieldwork, climate systems, irrigation, fertigation, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices to maintain optimal growing conditions.
Resource & Asset Management

Strategically allocate company resources and oversee key assets to maximize operational output.

Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies and cultivation methods to improve productivity and cost-effectiveness.
Performance Analysis & Strategic Adaptation

Monitor operational performance and interpret data to inform strategic decisions and respond to market or environmental shifts.

Analyze crop plans, costs, and agricultural practices in coordination with finance and accounting teams.
Team Leadership & Staff Development

Direct, develop, and inspire operational teams; ensure effective training, performance management, and team motivation.

Foster a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation.

Set performance objectives, oversee scheduling and resource planning, and manage team structure and leave approvals.
Strategic Planning & Business Development

Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to design and implement operational strategies aligned with long-term business goals.

Identify opportunities for growth and innovation, supporting the introduction of new business initiatives.

Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices within the greenhouse horticulture industry.
Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements related to agricultural operations, food safety, and workplace health and safety.

Develop, implement, and monitor internal processes and safety protocols to maintain a secure and compliant working environment.
Crisis Management & Professional Conduct

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations leadership within high-tech greenhouse environments or controlled-environment agriculture, preferably with expertise in tomato production.

Strong knowledge of greenhouse technologies, climate and fertigation systems, and modern cultivation techniques such as hydroponics or aeroponics.

Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive performance.

Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.

Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Proficiency in relevant agricultural or greenhouse management software and data tools.
