  • Job Description: Fleet & Engineering Manager

    Position Overview

    We are seeking a highly experienced Fleet & Engineering Manager to assume full responsibility for the management, performance, and development of a large and diverse fleet of agricultural machinery, as well as associated engineering and irrigation infrastructure.

    This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and strategic oversight to ensure the efficient, reliable, and cost-effective operation of large-scale mechanised farming equipment and critical water management systems within a high-output agricultural environment.


    Key Responsibilities

    Fleet Management

    • Oversee the management, maintenance, and operational readiness of a fleet comprising 800+ tractors (including John Deere, Agco and New Holland models) and approximately 170 harvesters.
    • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programmes, service schedules, and workshop standards to minimise downtime and maximise operational efficiency.
    • Lead and manage teams of mechanics, engineers, and technical support staff, ensuring adherence to safety standards, technical excellence, and performance expectations.
    • Ensure availability and control of spare parts, consumables, and workshop equipment through effective procurement and inventory management.
    • Analyse equipment utilisation data to optimise fleet performance, fuel efficiency, and asset lifecycle management.

    Engineering & Irrigation Management

    • Take full responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of irrigation infrastructure, including pump systems, centre pivots, and flood irrigation networks.
    • Provide technical input into the design, development, and improvement of irrigation systems to enhance water efficiency and crop productivity.
    • Ensure all engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable quality and safety standards.
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across irrigation and engineering systems to support long-term operational sustainability.

    Leadership & Strategy

    • Manage, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary technical workforce, fostering skills development and knowledge transfer across teams.
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) relating to fleet efficiency, cost control, equipment availability, and downtime reduction.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to align fleet and engineering strategies with broader agricultural production objectives.
    • Drive innovation in equipment utilisation, engineering processes, and technology adoption to enhance productivity and operational performance.

    Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across all fleet and engineering operations.
    • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline across all technical teams.
    • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and records in line with internal and regulatory requirements.

    Candidate Profile

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline.
    • Extensive experience in fleet and engineering management within large-scale, complex operational environments.
    • Proven track record managing large agricultural machinery fleets (tractors, harvesters, or equivalent heavy equipment).
    • Strong technical knowledge of irrigation systems, including pumps, centre pivots, and flood irrigation design.
    • Experience in workshop operations, preventative maintenance systems, and spare parts logistics.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience managing large technical and engineering teams.
