Job Description: Fleet & Engineering Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Fleet & Engineering Manager to take full responsibility for the management, performance, and development of a large and diverse fleet of agricultural machinery and associated engineering infrastructure. This role requires strong technical, managerial, and strategic capabilities to ensure the efficient, reliable, and cost-effective operation of a large fleet and critical irrigation systems across an extensive farming operation.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Management

Oversee the management and maintenance of a fleet comprising 800+ tractors (including John Deere and New Holland) and 170 harvesters.

Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules, service protocols, and workshop standards to minimise downtime and maximise operational performance.

Lead a team of mechanics, engineers, and support staff, ensuring high technical standards, safety compliance, and performance monitoring.

Ensure availability of spare parts, consumables, and workshop equipment through effective procurement and inventory control.

Analyse machine utilisation data to optimise fleet performance, fuel consumption, and lifecycle management.
Engineering & Irrigation Management

Take full responsibility for the operation and maintenance of irrigation infrastructure, including pumps, pivots, and flood irrigation systems.

Provide technical input into the design, construction, and optimisation of irrigation systems to maximise water efficiency and crop yields.

Ensure all engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives in irrigation and engineering practices to support long-term sustainability.
Leadership & Strategy

Manage, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary technical workforce, promoting professional development and knowledge transfer.

Establish and implement KPIs and performance monitoring systems for fleet efficiency, cost management, and downtime reduction.

Work closely with senior management to align fleet and engineering strategies with broader operational and production objectives.

Drive innovation in equipment use, technology adoption, and engineering solutions to enhance productivity.
Compliance & Safety

Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across all fleet and engineering operations.

Promote a culture of safety, reliability, and accountability within the team.

Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in line with regulatory and company requirements.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline.

Significant experience in fleet and engineering management within large-scale, complex operations.

Proven track record of managing large machinery fleets (tractors, harvesters, or equivalent).

Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, including pumps, pivots, and flood irrigation design.

Experience in workshop management, preventative maintenance, and spare parts logistics.

Demonstrable leadership experience managing large technical teams.
